Woven Scrolls

My name is Warren Escherich and my journey into bookbinding started one day in 2019 when I was looking for something to watch on YouTube. I came across a video by Nerdforge where they made a black leather-bound book. I was instantly hooked. I watched that video endlessly on repeat to learn as much as I could. The book-bug bit. Hard. Inspired by Nerdforge’s video and what I learned from it, I took the last bit of money I had left at the time and bought some basic stationery to try make my first basic book (I decided to start small and simple first – I could try more detail on my next try). My first book wasn’t amazing, but it was a start. So, I rewatched Nerdforge’s video many times again, and learning from their video and my mistakes on my first book, I tried my second attempt. Soon Nerdforge released more bookbinding videos. Rewatch. Rewatch. Rewatch. I was getting better from what I learned in the videos and at constant retries at making better books. In 2023 I had the privilege of going to Norway. Very soon after my arrival, I fell in love with the country, the culture, the language, and the people (I really want to visit soon again!). Then not long before my departure, Martina and Hansi of Nerdforge very graciously took time out of their super busy schedules to meet me! Such wonderfully kind and down to Earth people! With my motivation freshly renewed, I returned to South Africa and continued my bookbinding…

To Martina and Hansi, Thank You So Much for inspiring me to start my journey into the Wonderful World of Book Binding! Of course a Huge Thank You to everyone as well who have supported and encouraged me along the way! Without you all I wouldn’t have got as far as I have today!
